I don't know about white bread, but a loaf of wheat bread is usually 3 riyals (but if you get it from the store Panda and get their store brand, its like 1.50). However, you can get a bag of the local bread "samuly" that has 8 small sub-sandwich like rolls, for 1 riyal. As far as is it cheap to live, it depends on your tastes/preferences.

(we only pay our water bill every 2 years cause its just about a few dollars).. gasoline is cheap...

Bread costs around 2 to 4 riyals depending on where you get it from. As for cost of living, well Saudi is like the cheapest in the Gulf. Everything is cheap here, and cause there is no real source of entertainment you can save alot of money>>>

it all depends on what standard of living you are looking for it can vary so much. you can eat a decent dinner from 2 to 40 euros. i mean decent as something really clean, filling and all levels of society would not mind eat it at all. a loaf of bread cost any where between 5 american cents to 1 dollar, depending on where you buy it. i find the cheapest type is the tastier ones. gas prices are exceptionally cheap (i fill my tank for 8 dollars) a good check would be the big mac index a combo meal: big mac, french fries and regular coke would cost 14 riyals (3.8 dollars). http://www.oanda.com/products/bigmac/bigmac.shtml

Food is very cheap here. A loaf of bread costs about 2-3 riyals depending on where you buy it. You can fill up your car's gas tank for about 20 riyals. Thats the cheapest gas price in the world. A can of coke or pepsi costs 1 riyal. I buy a months worth of groceries including shampoo, conditioner, soap, deoderant, lotion, laundry deterent, bleach, fabric softener and all other household cleaners ect. for about 1000 riyals and I eat the best foods, filet mignon, lobster, shrimp ect. Some people might pay less than me for a months worth of groceries but I like to buy some imported things however all the basic things are available from local suppliers at a cheaper cost. Many well-known companies such as coke, pepsi, doritos, nestle, tide, clorox, dawn, pantene, herbal essence, kraft ect make thier products locally to sell to the local market and they are very cheap. However if you buy products made in Europe or the states it will be a bit more expensive because these things have to be imported. Some brand names have a set price no matter where they are sold and they will be the same price anywhere in the world but here they will be the same price minus tax. I know people who buy large electronics like TVs, stereos, sound systems, washers, dryers, dishwashers ect. from here and have them shipped to the states because even with the shipping buying it from here is still significantly cheaper (like more than 50% cheaper for many of the best brands). So just look at the whole country as big duty free store.
