My American friend was offered an international 12 month contract job in Saudi Arabia but is it safe there?
Is it safe for an American woman to live in Saudi Arabia? Its a medical job in a medical facility in a compound.

Well I hear that it is safer to live in Saudi Arabia if compared to the United States. Here are some positive and negative aspects of living in Saudi Arabia? On the negative side (for some) Saudi Arabia is very conservative in that women cannot drive; women must wear an abaya (long black robe) over their clothes; in some circumstances it is prudent for a woman to cover her hair as well. There are no public movie theatres; segregation on the local environment remains in effect in most places. One will not find any public clubs or dances in the Kingdom. For some individuals depending on their lifestyle and interests those aspects could be negative. On the positive side one can live well and much easier and for less than in many other places; people will bond quickly and become friends; there is much to explore and discover about Arabia; this is an excellent environment for a family. The Saudis love and cherish children of all ages. No matter how prepared your friend may be she will still be culturally shocked and she may even have delayed culture shock BUT I suggest that she maintain a positive attitude and outlook throughout her vist.

it is safer than any place in the world. i bet that she'll make many friendships with women in here. of course we don't have movie theaters, but we have many shopping mall, and many entertainment places in here. 2 weeks and she'll learn the Saudi culture. Safety in Saudi Arabia is better than US and better than any place in the whole world.

As a previous worker in saudi arabia, it is very safe there. For now in saudi is a cold season.

there are thousands of american citizens living and working in Saudiarabia.. some have lived here for so long that their children are now coming back to work here cause they loved it here so much.. its perfectly safe... as they said above about the culture and customs.. was correct..
